Exploring Relations between Decision Analysis and Game Theory

چکیده
Many authors, including Cavusoglu and Raghunathan (2004) in this journal, have argued that proper modeling of the strategic interaction between players requires a game theoretic approach as opposed to a decision theoretic approach. We argue in this paper, however, that there are many environments in which decision analysis can deal with strategic interactions just as well and we present equivalence results for such environments. These equivalence results allow the prescriptive decision analyst to use the standard tools that a sound decision analysis requires, including decision trees and sensitivity analysis, even when confronted with strategic settings. We further present two technical comments on the Cavusoglu and Raghunathan paper. ∗We are grateful to Bob Clemen, Ralph Koijen, Casey Lichtendahl, and Canan Ulu for many helpful discussions and to Don N. Kleinmuntz (the editor) and three anonymous referees for helpful comments.

A Decision Analysis Approach to Solving the Signaling Game
Decision analysis has traditionally been applied to choices under uncertainty involving a single decision maker. Game theory has been applied to solving games of strategic interaction between two or more players. Building upon recent work of van Binsbergen and Marx (2007. Exploring relations between decision analysis and game theory. Decision Anal. 4(1) 32–40.), this paper defines a modified de...
متن کاملRanking Efficient Decision Making Units Using Cooperative Game Theory Based on SBM Input-Oriented Model and Nucleolus Value
In evaluating the efficiency of decision making units (DMUs) by Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models, may be more than one DMU has an efficiency score equal to one. Since ranking of efficient DMUs is essential for decision makers, therefore, methods and models for this purpose are presented. One of ranking methods of efficient DMUs is cooperative game theory. In this study, Lee and Lozano mod...
متن کاملCooperative network flow problem with pricing decisions and allocation of benefits: A game theory approach
Several real problems in telecommunication, transportation, and distribution industries can be well analyzed by network flow models. In revenue management, pricing plays a primary role which increases the profit generated from a limited supply of assets. Pricing decision directly affects the amount of service or product demand. Hence, in traditional maximum flow problem, we assume that the dema...
متن کاملThe competitive advantages analysis of pharmaceutical industry strategic behaviors by game theory
Game theory is the study of mathematical models and cooperation between intelligent rational decision-makers. This paper provides a flexible model to calculate pay-off matrix based on several importance factors. This model is adapted by cooperative game and developed for some competitive advantages sections in pharmaceutical industry. An optimum solution is derived by considering Nash equilibri...
متن کاملRisk management in urban tunnels using methods of game theory and multi-criteria decision-making
In general, underground spaces are associated with high risks because of their high uncertainty in geotechnical environments. Since most accidents and incidents in these structures are often associated with uncertainty, the development of risk analysis and management methods and prevention of accidents are essential. A deeper recognition of the factors affecting the implementation process can p...
